Client Feature: The Bailiwick Academy

In today’s blog, we’re featuring one of our clients who we started working with in 2017: The Bailiwick Academy. We got to know its founder and CEO, Grace Parazo, when she contacted us to ask about integrating Dragonpay with Bailiwick’s payment gateway system–thanks to Dragonpay for recommending us!

We delivered what she needed, and we’ve been maintaining their website and online learning platform ever since.

But why did Grace need a payment system in the first place? What’s The Bailiwick Academy, anyway? Well, keep reading to find out–especially if you’re an aspiring cook or baker wanting to build your own food business!

What is The Bailiwick Academy?

The Bailiwick Academy, or TBA, is an online learning platform. As its stated on their website, they carry “LIFE-CHANGING ONLINE AND ON-DEMAND CLASSES that empower Filipino mothers who are passionate about BAKING AND COOKING, to UPSKILL and help them GAIN CONFIDENCE to turn their PASSION INTO PROFIT.”

There are many different classes inside, all taught by instructors who are experts in their fields. And as long as a student has an Internet connection and an Internet-ready device, they can watch their purchased classes, letting them study anytime and anywhere. Class access is forever, too!

Why was The Bailiwick Academy founded?

The Bailiwick Academy Founder and CEO, Grace Parazo.

Before Grace became an entrepreneur, she was in the corporate world with a steady job and paycheck. When she got married and had her firstborn, though, she started thinking of a different way to earn money. After all, being in corporate meant traveling back and forth, plus spending at least eight hours in traffic.

How would she be able to take care of her baby and bond with her when she was away for almost half the time?

So Grace thought hard about it and decided that since she loved to eat, she would start a home-based baking business, Vidriado Cakes and Pastries. She would just make customized cakes and cupcakes for clients. And to ensure she would only give her best, she enrolled in various baking classes at different institutions.

But then she found herself facing the same problems she was trying to avoid: traffic and being away from her kids (Grace already had two at this time). Add that to the fact that Grace was breastfeeding, which, as any mom would know, was very exhausting.

Her experience inspired Grace to set up a more convenient way of learning how to cook and bake. And because Grace knew she wasn’t the only one going through what she was going through, she made it her personal mission to be able to support other Filipinas to turn their love for cooking and baking into something profitable. More importantly, it would be a business that would let these Filipinas still have time for their families even while earning.

From there, The Bailiwick Academy was born!

What are the classes inside?

As of this writing, TBA already has almost 200 classes–with more to come soon. Grace believes in giving her students the best, which means constantly adding new courses. She also ensures that the recipes and classes on their website are all proven best sellers.

That means if you enroll in any of them, you can be sure you’ll get your investment back.

Some of the best cooking and baking classes include:

Classic Filipino Egg Pie:

And, of course, running a food business involves more than just coming out with delicious food. That’s why Grace also included classes related to marketing, such as mobile food photography, business branding, and bakery operations.

Who are some of the instructors?

Grace made an effort to approach a lot of expert Filipino instructors in the field, such as Chef Joey Prats, a well-known chef who transformed the humble ensaymada into something artisanal;

Chef Miko Aspiras, a Filipino chef based in Australia who is well-known for his different, avant-garde take on desserts;

Chef Ely Salar, a master in the creation of chocolate desserts and currently has his own chocolate patisserie shop;

Chef RV Manabat, a chef and book author who has put Binan, Laguna on the map with his restaurant and who has studied not only in the Philippines but also in the USA, France, Belgium, and South Korea;

Chef Chona Laureta, a sought-after chef for different baking demonstrations and is a champion of Filipino cuisine;

And Chef Him Uy De Baron, a chef who has already put up different restaurants with different cuisines and has worked with Rustans and ABS-CBN.

Grace is always looking for more instructors willing to help Pinays take their cooking and baking to the next level. In TBA’s five years of operation, they’ve added 35 teachers to their roster

What sets The Bailiwick Academy apart from other schools?

Wondering why you should enroll in TBA and how it’s different from other cooking workshops or instructional videos? Here are some of its features:

  • Learn on demand: As mentioned, as long as you have Internet and can access The Bailiwick Academy website, you can study your chosen course. Isn’t it great that you don’t have to travel anywhere else to learn?
  • Unlimited access: When you buy a course, it’s yours for life. Feel free to watch the video again and again until you master the skills. You can even return to your video if you want to refresh your memory.
  • Proven courses: There might be plenty of recipe videos on the Internet, but you can’t be sure if you’ll get the correct result or if people will buy the recipes. All the courses offered to TBA students come from the recipes of expert instructors who have already created and sold those food products. That means all students have to do is follow the recipes, and they’ll be able to make sellable food items–no more second-guessing!
  • A support system: One problem with learning online is that students can feel alone and unsupported. Grace made an exclusive Facebook group called the TBA Student Lounge. Here, students can post their outputs, encourage one another, ask questions, and even tag instructors to ask them. In short, TBA has been built from the ground up to help students excel and succeed at cooking and baking!
  • Earn while you learn: You get a unique affiliate link when enrolling in one of TBA’s paid courses. You get a commission when people sign up using your link and enroll in a paid course. The more people do this, the more you earn–you can practically make back your investment in your TBA courses!

How do you enroll?

When you go to The Bailiwick Academy’s website, press the Sign Up button. Follow the instructions to create an account, such as confirming your email address. Make sure to input your birthday so that you’ll get a 30% discount voucher on your birthday month!

Once you’re done, you can enroll in any class of your choosing, whether free or paid. It’s that simple. Remember that you’ll get a Php500 OFF as a bonus voucher after you sign up, so make sure to use that when you purchase a course to get a discount.
